Love the time between 24.12. and new Year, but lack a good reason to celebrate because Christianity is not your thing? Don’t despair! In the good old tradition of hijack… eh reinterpreting existing celebration dates, let’s celebrate the Newton Days.
Sir Isaac Newton not only got hit by a falling apple, but is also certainly one of the most important persons whose work allows you to read this from the warmth of your home, with electrical light and magical internet. So why not, once a year, celebrate his birthday on 25.12., or was it 4.1.? In fact it’s both. In the Julian calendar, he was born 25.12.1642 in the more modern Gregorian calendar, he was born 4.1.1643 [1].
That’s why were taking these 11 days off and celebrate to reflect on the progress of humanity thanks to science. From Julian to the more sciency Gregorian calendar.
We take this time to stay with our beloved ones, to reflect on what really matters and why we’re doing science in the first place: To better the conditions of humanity!
Thus, happy Newton Days!
Yours,
Rafael & Isaac
